Mike Yanchak
A native of Canonsburg, PA, Mike was born into a family that consisted of
two music teachers and a theater professional. When his father (who had no
music experience whatsoever) also started acting and singing, he realized
that he was about to be estranged from a family that was already pretty
strange to begin with. The only problem was that he didn’t really play any
instruments. So he tried a cappella, but then he realized that you needed
to sing pretty well to do that. Which led him to making funny sounds with
his mouth and spitting.
Turned out Mike was pretty good at that. Training with some of the nation’s
premier vocal drummers, he has become Pittsburgh’s top mouthdrummer and
uses his accurate sounds and pocket grooves as the driving force behind most
of DoubleShot!’s tunes.
“What really moves me isn’t just the singing. It’s about making an original
performing act and making it good. Getting out there and putting your sound
out there for people. That’s what’s really fun for me.”
A graduate of Duquesne University, Mike aspires to leave his comfortable
life as a computer programmer and be a broke singer for a living. In
related news, his second choice is professional gambling. We’re pretty sure
Mike is hopeless, but dang can he make funny sounds with his mouth.
